It has been seriously cool to have the best sounding amps I’ve heard- pumpin’ behind me at GKB and other shows the past several years. I’m the proud owner/endorser of the following Shannon Coberly-crafted Trimmed and Burnin’ amps (4 of ‘em!) and soon, one of his Resotele guitars as well. Check out the pics and read what Shannon sez about each one of these beauties!

SLOW BURN MODEL:

I built this amp and named it Slow Burn after a song that Glenn wrote and to thank Glenn for his example. Glenn’s music has had a huge effect on me since the first time I heard him. In fact I named my company “Trimmed And Burnin Amps” as a constant reminder to me to stay awake and listen to what God is saying. This is the first amp that I built for Glenn.

Based on the Fender 5E3, she’s all hand wired point to point using Sprague “orange drops” add Mallory capacitor and filters. 5Y3 rectifier/2-NOS 6V6’s/NOS 12AX7 and a EH 12AY7. The mid range is slightly enhanced and has a beefier transformer than the Fenders so the Slow Burn will deliver a full 15 watts. This is a substantial gain in tone and volume over the original 5E3.

The Slow Burn has a Weber 12A150 speaker which is also a far better speaker than those typically used and helps to achieve more head room than other 5E3’s. I built the cab out of AAA Western Flame Maple that I logged and milled myself here in the state of Washington. There is a “shadow box” of Australian Lacewood around the sound board which is made of solid African Ribbon Mahogany. The shadow box was joined to the cab using an isoloc joint instead of a straight rip and glue up; I used the same isoloc joint to join the entire cab as well. This is a stronger joint than either finger or dovetail joints as there are no straight lines. A curved line offers more surface area to glue and looks Killer! The cab is finished with a blue dye applied directly to the wood with many coats of high gloss automotive poly top coat to really show off the flame maple.

HARP AMP:

This is the second amp that I built Glenn. It started life as a 1969 Fender Vibro Champ. The only changes made to this amp are that it is now housed in a Western Flame Maple cab with a solid mahogany sound board. Again this is maple that I logged and milled. I put a Weber Alnico Blue Pup speaker in it and used a Dobro resonator cover as a speaker grill. As a rule I don’t take existing amps and modify them but this was an idea that I couldn’t not do.

SPANKY:

Originally called Micro Burn, this amp was “by request”. In about 2002 or early 2003 Glenn asked if I would build him a one watt amp. He wanted something small that he could practice and record with at low volumes. It got put on the back burner, when I saw Glenn at the Back2Blues fest in August of 2005 he asked if I had made any progress,Uhhhh-nooo! So I went back to the design table and honestly I need to give credit to the Gilmore Jr. that was designed by Gerhart Amplification.

Spanky turned out to be a huge half watt with one 12AX7 and a 6n1p. A Weber 10F150-0 speaker housed in a blonde cab for the Spoonful Harp Amp that I designed for Darrell Mansfield..

As per Glenn’s suggestion, look for this amp and speaker housed in a guitar case with one of my Resotele guitars, an electric resonator guitar, sometime in the near future.

59’er MODEL (H212):

The 59’er is (as the name suggests) designed after the Fender 59 Tweed Bassman but as with all of my amps it has an enhanced mid-range and a little more beef than the original and a voice of its own. Glenn played a 2x10 combo model at the Back2Blues Fest and seemed to like it so we got together to build one that suits his needs and desires.

5AR4 rectifier/ 2-6L6’s/ 2-12AX7’s, and one 12AY7 deliver 38 watts at clean settings and 47 watts at full distortion.

This particular amp is the export model that has a switchable power transformer to handle North American and European power supplies. Glenn’s 59’er comes as a head with a 2x12 extension cab with 2 Weber Alnico 12V’s, these are loud, warm, offer smooth high’s, punchy mid-range and deliver a beefy bottom. The cabs are built of pine and covered in lacquered tweed with striped oxblood grill cloth.

RESOTELE ELECTRIC RESONATOR GUITAR:
